As I said above, I do not recall the brand of our first TV... I do remember our first TV, black and white, was a Motorola. I can see it perfectly in my mind. It had a hinged door in the front.
As time wore on the tube weakened, so that it gave off little light. To compensate we would leave the front hinged door open somewhat to block light and help in viewing the TV. I can remember lying in front of the TV and I would control it with my feet according to my parents instructions... to change channels, to adjust the angle of the door to block outside light.
I do not remember when we bought that first one... early 50's, for sure. In 1958 we built a new home... and we took the Motorola and had it for a few years until we purchased our 2nd TV, the first color TV. I don't remember the year we got the color TV... but it had to be in '61 or '62. I want to say it was an RCA... but I really can't be sure.
I searched images on Google for the Motorola but did not find the one we owned.
