Coronavirus, as far as I know, is actually a name for a group of viruses. Most coronaviruses are spread between animals, but now it's gone zoonotic (animal to humans). Not much different than other viruses of the past (Ebola). Viruses evolve incredibly fast.
It's definitely serious, no doubt, especially for the elderly or those with an already compromised immune system.
The thing is, they think the death ratio is around 2%, but we don't really know the total number of actual infections, i.e., the denominator.
It's even more worrisome when you consider all the crazy, unfounded, conspiracy level stuff being floated around on the internet and social media.
Honeywell is telling everyone that they can't keep up with the demand for face masks. The thing is, as far as I understand, unless you're already infected or a health professional, you don't need to wear one. And the ones that many people are buying aren't the variety that are appropriate for medical purposes.
Scary for sure, but people also don't need to go DEFCON 1 quite yet.
