Didn't even think of cutting through the plastic.. Now I'm thinking lodge a flathead under the opposite side and just lift until the plastic gives way - should be at the rivet point since it would be the weakest spot.. then replace batteries and rig the battery door shut..

Mama, if you're committed to buying new ones with screws, I'd give Jimmy's plan a whirl.. if you have a utility knife or exacto knife (both with razor blades), that would be the way to go, I think.. that way if you booger it up, its ok cuz you were committed to buying new ones with screws, anyway..
