New details of B–17 crash emerge

A preliminary NTSB report on the fatal October 2 crash of a vintage Boeing B–17 Flying Fortress in Connecticut includes evidence that the aircraft may have had trouble with more than one of its four engines.

Needless to say this is awful & shocking for all. I think about the vets that were on this flight. I don't know how I missed this.
Several years ago my brother in law donated to the Collings Foundation and as a perk we were able to take a flight on their B-17 Nine O Nine. The flight went to Morro Bay & around Arroyo Grande & Back to SLO. This was special for many reasons and especially because my dad was a Tail gunner on a B-17 during the war.
A few years later as fortune would have it we were able to take flight on the B-24 All American from SLO to Monterey CA. The All American was the type of plane that my Bro in law's dad flew on during the war. His dad was a radioman/gunner.
Both of our dads planes were shot down...The B-17 barely made it to Sweden after bombing Stettin. The B-24 was shot down over Albania after bombing Ploesti. Pat's dad was a Stalag pow which is a whole other story.
Here are some photos from our flight on the B-17 Nine O Nine and one photo is of the B-17 from the B-24. The B-17 accompanied us to Monterey.
