but first... your sim. WOWEE WOZER! THAT LOOKS INCREDIBLE... I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to experience that.
My tale: This last Memorial Day weekend I spent at Disneyland... outside the park is "Downtown Disney" with various store, restaurants, live music, etc. One the business's is a virtual reality experience... modeled on "Star Wars". 3 of my grandson's, (avid gamers, and this will come into play in this tale shortly), did it with me. It was really entertaining, and I loved it.
You put on a helmet with the VR Visor, a vest.... and everything you see is part of the Star Wars world... including yourself. My grandson's were all storm troopers as was I.
So we begin the adventure... at first your just going "Wow, look at that, look at you, look at me"..... as you navigate thru the course... it's not a 'ride', you walk it... with cliffs and such like in your Sim.
The 'Theme' of the experience is to do something.... I can't really tell you what because I'm hard of hearing and couldn't understand a word the "Bot" was telling us our quest was. We get our 'assignment' and then enter a room that has "Blasters". Welllllllllllllllllllllllllll.....
My grandson's saw those Blasters and IT WAS ON.... they snatched them up like I go chips and salsa. Then they proceeded to shoot everything that moved, friend or foe, and anything that didn't move... targets included each other... which were quite the visual display as thru the VR Visor you could see sparks fly off helmets when shot. I was out of my element, they were games... it just came naturally to them.... for me it was 'pride'... by that I mean...
Some of the 'bad guys' were difficult shots.... I've shot guns my entire life... and I'm not a great marksman but I'm not bad... so I chose those hard targets and showed the smartalecky whippersnappers what being a good shot was actually like.
The end, however.... was humiliating. Remember, I couldn't understand the BOT giving us directions and goals.... the very last scene was a computer where you had to type in a 'code' before you could exit. My grandson's failed... time and time and time again... finally the Bot said, "Is there an adult with you?"..... I was the adult, and that code was so stinking simple as to be like tic tac toe.... but I couldn't hear the instructions, and thus, failed as well.
Anyway... pretty neat. One scene was over a lava surfaced planet and the heat they sent up under your feet WAS hot. - JamesJM
