my fear of heights is overcome by the love I have for heights. And yes, I know, that makes little sense.
Yet... I cannot stand on the edge of a cliff. Bailing out of a plane, yes. Standing at the edge of a precipice for a bungy jump, yes (although with some anxiety)... but just walking up to the edge of a cliff... a straight down cliff of some height? Not a chance.
You know the mountain Half Dome in Yosemite? I have climbed it several times. The edge is literally straight down for 4000'.... far steeper than the Grand Canyon, for example. To look over the edge I must lie prone on the top some 10' away from the edge, minimum, and then low crawl to the edge and even then I'm lucky to get ONE eyeball over the edge to peer down. When I have done this other's simply stroll up the edge at full speed stopping with their toes hanging over. It makes me want to beat the living @#$# out of them. - JamesJM
