One of my closest friends is German. He grew up in Berlin and recalls-as a child-hiding in a basement when our planes were bombing the city. I've been to Berlin with him to see his mom (since died). He is a professional glass blower for a local university here. He never goes to movies. My wife and I took him and his wife to see Schindler's List when it came out. He had to walk out of the theater before it was half over. He said what little he saw made him sick and he needed a drink-not a soft drink.
