He grew up a stone's throw from Myrtle Beach AFB. During WWII there was a POW camp there. Dad said that most of them were very nice but there were a few hard liners that were not approachable. Dad told me they caught 7-8 Submariners who rowed onto the shore at Myrtle Beach. They almost did not seem to care if they did get caught.
