when I was about 8 years old.. played the Astros in Houston and the game went 17 innings with the Pirates winning.. A couple of weeks later I sent a letter to the Pirates asking for a schedule.. I addressed it:
Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
..and it actually got through.. I actually did that with the Rams and got some cool stuff, as well... Anyways, they sent me WAY more than a schedule.. they sent me autographed pictures of Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Al Oliver, Manny Sanguillen and several other players.. I kept those photos in perfect condition until the late 90's.. they were at my mom's house and I went to go get them and they were gone.. My brother, who was unemployed, had moved back into my mom's house.. somehow during that time he managed a 10 day trip to Paris..
I did an ebay search and similar Roberto Clemente photos were selling for around $1100-$1200.. the others might have pulled in $200-$300 for the batch.. but there's no doubt in my mind that my brother, who was an avid ebay seller back then, stole and then sold my Pirates photos on ebay.. by the time I figured it out, it was more than 6 months past the selling date and no way to tell what items he sold..
I'll never get over that one.. I'll be mad about that until the day I die..
