I remember Savoy Brown, they were played on a semi regular basis on the local rock radio station here in St. Louis when they were a "Progressive" music station [
www.kshe95.com] They've changed over the years with contest's, playing songs too often, more commercials, they do still rock though. One of the best things is they have a 4 hour (8am to noon) KSHE classics show on Sunday mornings. A lot of the songs on that show are the ones from their earlier days. The DJ for that show is John Ulett, he's been a DJ at that station for over 40 years. Very unusual in the radio biz. I remember hearing him when I was in high school (class of '76)
Early '70's was their best days IMO, no contests ever, not many commercials, mostly all music all the time. You might hear the same song every week or so, never multiple times in the same day like some stations. Listening to it in those days was almost like playing your own prerecorded music.
