I have a weather radio and I have it set to alarm when there are tornado warnings in my county and surrounding counties. Since tornados travel from west to east, I'm warned if there's one in the county just west of us and headed my way. The alert comes from the Weather Service and we do get enough warning to take cover in the basement.
