I once saw a wild boar leap and clear a barbed wire fence. Going UPHILL!
Yeah, Coyotes trot... until the "kill is on". Some years ago I was at a youth, (very young kids), baseball game. Probably T-Ball (don't remember). Next to the baseball field was an open patch of land on which a 'city' of squirrels had taken up residence. All the kids were watching the squirrels. Laughing, giggling, how cute they were. Had to be 100 of them frolicking in the California Sunshine. And then: From out of nowhere a coyote leaped from concealment, (this no further than 50' from the stands), and snatched up a squirrel. Wellllll......
20 or so 6-7 yr old toddlers were traumatized. Quite a few Moms as well... and a couple of Dad's got a little queasy as well.
BTW, back to coyotes running. I've seen them run quite a few times, on my ranch... chasing rabbits mostly. Squirrels quickly head underground so the coyotes don't reach top speed. Actually they don't reach top speed chasing the rabbits either since rabbits, as we all know, will break a coyotes ankles several times on any given chase. - JamesJM
