I read that in books and also saw it in TV documentaries

But maybe ther were overdramatizing it.. they always made the point that you had to be locked into the ball turret before the plan took off and couldn't get out until the plane had landed, so it was very dangerous due to flak hits and landing gear malfunctions.. if I can find specific stuff about it, I'll post it..
