I'm always reading about people losing their pets to coyotes... especially down around LA...but also around nearly every, perhaps every, major city.
And yet... I'm in the country, prime Coyote country.... we've got herds of them, (slight exaggeration)... and I know of no one who has lost a pet to a coyote... not even chickens in pens, nor rabbits, or any other penned animal.
It's gotta be an abundance of other wildlife that keeps them fed... that's all that makes sense to me.
They DO scare my family occasionally however. They run in packs and every so often at night they'll break out in song and we can hear them probably no further than a 100yds or so from the house. Don't know what they're up to but I know of no neighbor that's had a problem with them.
But to be clear.. Not saying coyotes aren't a problem.. they most definitely are. Even dangerous... just not here, for whatever reason.
