I've been very fortunate, Greg. All three of my grandson's who have graduated, so far, have made the City County All Star Game.... but last night...
When Gavin, my second oldest, was told Ashton had made it he was thrilled for him, of course. He said he knew he'd make it, no doubt... but then added:
"I wish I could have played in mine". Gavin was selected but the game was cancelled due to Covid. Gavin didn't have a Senior Day, or a graduation (formally), and didn't get to play in the All Star game. His Mom and I couldn't hold back our tears.
Gavin had quite the career, he followed Sean Chambers who went to Wyoming, D1, then to Montana D1. He came up to Varsity his sophomore year, Sean's Senior year, and backed up Sean but was also one of their starting receivers. His Jr. and Sr. year he took over for Sean and broke many of his records. But he didn't get to play that final game.
Devastating what Covid did to those kids. They'll never get back what they missed out on. - JamesJM
