He was the lone survivor of Torpedo Squadron #8 off the USS Hornet. Depicted in the movie "Midway". Anyway......He talked about the movie Production and how they did a fine job with Kevin Dobson. In fact, Gay was on set (On a boat) when they filmed Dobson in the water. It was shot just off the coast of Pensacola where the water was too murky. Gay mentioned just how clear the water was out in the middle of the Pacific. I read another book about the USS Indianapolis. Those guys testified about being able to see sharks 50 -100 feet below them.

I tell ya.....Simply going to the beach and just looking out at the Ocean makes me feel very very small.
