That's because I'm not a cannibal lol.. I think it came down to being force fed frozen fish sticks as a kid and the whole fishy smell thing completely turned me off.. Shrimp and stuff I don't understand cuz it has no flavor - only whatever you put on it like sauce and lemon and stuff.. but, people go bananas over it and it has no taste.. yeah, its kinda slimey nasty, imo..
I will eat deep fried catfish, as long as its fresh.. and I will eat Mahi Mahi if its fresh and prepared well - either blackened or lemon peppered..
Yeah, pretty sure waterfield has spearfished.. I think he free dives and spearfishes without scuba equipment, if I understood him correctly.. I have never fired a spear gun, but have sentenced probably AT LEAST 500 Lionfish to death.. I've explained they don't have natural predators in the Caribbean, so rule of thumb is you kill every one you find in an effort to keep their populations down - and they breed like rabbits.. That's because they destroy the reefs and kill the reef fish.. I went on one dive with just the dive masters at the island we stayed on in Belize and killed 125 just on one dive..And they were stuffed in 5 gallon water jugs and cooked up for dinner - for everyone but me lol.. On every other dive I point them out to a dive master who comes and sticks 'em with a spear.. I've gotten REALLY good at finding them.. Its kind of sad, but its necessary to keep the reefs in the Caribbean from dying..
Most of the time they don't allow spearfishing on recreational dives.. too much risk in one diver shooting another.. I've seen spears glance off of Lionfish and would nail something else next to it.. Dive masters will had a speargun to a diver to TRY shooting a Lionfish, but Lionfish are the only species you're allowed to spear - at least in the areas we've dove.. My wife, of all people, tried to shoot one.. the first shot bounced off the fish, the second wounded it and it got away, but probably died later, which was sad.. I would assume you'd probably need to pay some sort of fee in order to spearfish, or pay hefty fines if caught..
