I see the top 100 prospects for the draft include at least 9 edge rushers for the first round.
The first one I see that comes up for the 2nd round is WILL MCDONALD IV, IOWA STATE.
So I would wonder if the Rams think they can get enough value for an edge at that position. Will they try to sign a FA vet for higher impact for the defense and focus on development players in the draft or is there a guy they see starter quality in the top of the 2nd round?
Saying that Edge is deep in this draft might be a relative and tricky thing.
For example, if Rams pick one at #36 or so do they get a first year starter? Or at least a heavy contributor there? But if they wait until their 3rd rounder they must settle for a developmental player?
Whereas they just might get a starter or strong first year contributor at TE or RB as late as the 5th round? Now THAT’S a deep position group.
I guess I’m thinking that if they want an impact Edge for ‘23 they’d better get one in FA or use their 2nd to draft him and then pray that Snead got it right. Snead hasn’t exactly blown us away with his Edge picks, has he? Or 2nd rounders in general?
