I agree. I think a strong run game is like a good jab in boxing. It sets up everything else. But some people (like Mcvay) see the jab as a necessity just for keeping the opponent honest. So I don't think we'll ever have a dominant run game. But if Akers is at 20 touches a game it would be a great compliment to Kupp and Stafford.
Um, wasn't Todd Gurley a legit MVP Candidate? How much more dominant do you want?
Truly, this diseased BS mantra that McVay is basically pass happy is sooooo annoying. He will call whatever will give his players what he believes is the best opportunity to succeed based on their performance and the threats that exist on the other side of the line. He has repeatedly run the ball on early downs this year even when the line couldn't open holes. He didn't abandon the run in the Super Bowl even though the Bengals loaded up against it. Please, show this man the respect of knowing how his scheme works before spouting inaccuracies that become narratives people believe without actual knowledge.
1. When did I say Mcvay was pass happy?
2. When did I say that he abandoned the run?
Read correctly. What I said was that his preference is a passing game and that he uses the run game as a compliment to the pass instead of vice versa.
Now make sure you understand what someone is saying before you conjure up such an emotional response. Thanks.
Edit: and by the way, Mcvay was questioned plenty even during the Gurley years for not sticking to the run or waiting a bit too long to lean into the run game. Here's a list too . The Rams have only been top 10 in rushing attempts three times under Mcvay. They've been near the bottom multiple times.
