Is to give him another camp working hard with the QBs and play designers to maximize his utilization. Coach him hard and maximize him in 2023, then look at where you're at after the season. It could be that he becomes the guy we thought he'd be in this offense once the light bulb goes on.
I suspect there is still a chance he simply wasn't fully grasping the concepts. This is a tough offense, known to be very complex and demanding on receivers. McVay has very high standards. So you have a big target type WR who maybe didn't fully grasp everything and without that you're not going to shine in this attack. And I say this because he doesn't strike me as the smartest dude in the room. Not knocking the guy either. Everyone can't be the smartest guy in the room. Most in fact will not be.
So where will he be after another camp. Getting the scheme down cold and then as the teaching points happen he's up to speed and fully getting the benefit. This is why for myself at least I think he gets a year two thanks to that big paycheck and I also think it may pay off. This isn't a guy who has ever won with speed. He wins by being in the right spot. Which requires a full grasp of this offense.
