I’m staying with the soft characterization and I love McVay. He’s 2/3rds of a great coach.
I’ve been saying this for at least three seasons now. It occurred to me when the Ravens rolled the Rams in the Coliseum on Monday night football. Wade Phillips was still the D coordinator.
And tough teams box him into a corner with no personnel to counter. The Titans last year. The Bills this year. The 49ers for three straight regular seasons.
I want McVay to grow and become the greatest coach in NFL history. But I’m not going to lie to my eyes. If he stubbornly sticks with an NBA version of the NFL, he’s going to stagnate.
I’m looking forward to see how he acts. Some good signs are he’s sending the right message to the JAGs and pure potential and oft injured players. That’s a choice to demand toughness from his players by sending the message play hurt (different than play injured) or don’t take up a roster spot. I applaud him for that.
Don’t confuse soft with finesse….
Rams and Chiefs have been the best two teams in football over the last half decade and it wasn’t by being “soft” … Tell Aaron Donald he is soft see how that works out. LoL
They are considered finesse offenses, but it’s hard to argue with their success
Those bully teams you speak of haven’t been to two Super Bowls and won one since 2017 either…(Bills, Niners, Titans)
Shanny btw had three sub .500 teams in those years, that most people attributed to injuries… this is McVay’s first losing season and it’s pretty obvious as to why.
Sure I would love an OL full of bullies, but it hasn’t been like that since 2018 and we’ve done pretty well until the apocalypse of injuries we’ve had this year
Injuries have decimated both our OL and DL this year…and this team is still fighting like they did throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl last year. We just simply don’t have the talent
That is not a sign of a soft coach or soft team…. It is what it is, we are a team of third and fourth stringers at this point ….
