The draft brain trust seems overly reliant on analytics: three and two (or twenty!,) cone numbers and wunderlich scores. Team captains. Former QBs. And it’s foolish to ignore that.
But the Niners have John Lynch and Lynch gets the toughness thing in spades. I’m a Notre Dame fan and I still remember Lynch knocking out Reggie Brooks as Brooks just crossed the goal line, ran a couple of more steps totally unconscious and then fell to the ground. People know Lynch is a big hitter.
And we don’t—as far as I know—have a John Lynch in our scouting department. When Fisher was HC, that didn’t matter. But Fisher’s gone. And until you get some scouts who know what to look for, then John Lynch will continue to draft players that will throw our guys around…as you said, OG…like rag dolls.
