I know it’s uncomfortable to think of having to replace our beloved Matthew Stafford. Like everybody else, I just love the guy.
But his physical health may finally be in jeopardy. His wife’s concerns are legit.
Stafford may have already played his last snap or he may play for another 3 years. We all hope for the best for him but nobody really knows how this is gonna play out.
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield has fallen into our lap. I’m not suggesting that Rams extend BM this afternoon since that Raider game was probably an outlier. But I AM suggesting that we all watch BM VERY carefully during these final 4 games.
If he plays well, including some amazing intangibles, then I think the Rams have to move mountains to get him extended. Don’t ignore a gift or such luck when it becomes available.
‘Settling’ for a future comp pick if BM looks like a franchise QB would be classic penny wise and pound foolish. Not that I’m too worried about Rams being timid if BM proves himself shortly.
A productive BM would be a nightmare for the rest of the NFC West for the next 10+ years, don’t you think? And without having to spend a single draft pick (unlike the 49ers)? Are you KIDDING me? Would be the coup of the decade!
Now, of course, it’s up to BM to show us what he can do. Fingers crossed.
Can't lob them in like that man.
I just don't trust Baker when things aren't going right. Thought he was overdrafted, and has really never done anything to disprove that. On top of that, are you going to pay him 10m to be a backup QB and ignore glaring holes on both sides of the ball? I can't do that.
I don't think Stafford is going anywhere anyhow, and when he does, I think McVay follows and surely AD. So at that point its a rebuild. And if a new HC is coming in, I want the OL fixed first and the new HC to pick HIS QB.
Just my 2 cents.
