I mean sure, you could be right... but it seems to me that 'soft play' is actually more difficult and I would think certainly more mentally stressful.
When you play a system, and these days that's the only way you play, it has to be HARD as an athlete to mentally "believe" you could do "whatever" and make it work but be prevented from doing so because of the 'system'. And don't read that as me saying "players should always be able to wing it".... not AT ALL. The system is there for a reason, a very good one.
