Yeah, the “It’s all on me” gets him no improvement because his insight on “getting the players in the right places” limits him getting better players that could be getting into more successful places.

He’s got this offensive theory and it requires ‘x’ type player. He then drafts or signs said player, some successes, Kupp and Woods, some not, ARobinson and Atwell.

Here’s what bother me about his limited insight into offensive football—I could see (and I’m going to be ridiculous to make the point) the second coming of Randy Moss—for whatever reason, say character—drops out of the first round and the Rams are on the clock and Moss 2.0 is right there. I could easily see the Rams passing on him for some team captain guy that’s basically a JAG but high character. Sure. You want those guys on the team.

And they thought they were getting an explosive guys—Atwell—but how does a 150 lbs guy get drafted in the 2nd round? That pick was the red pill for me. I applauded every pick in the McSnead era and that one was a red flag.

So, they just have to get past the scheme fit guys—a lot of whom good coaches wouldn’t chose—and pick, draft sign superior players. Worry about the scheme fit later or break out of your scheme and stretch your own coaching prowess.
