Some advanced stats on Rapp: his average depth of target allowed is 3.9 yards... that's pretty crazy. Morris is using him on the underneath patterns close to the line. Now this is where size/tackling comes into play.. his missed tackle rate is 12%.. which is not at Troy Reeder level but still high. So yeah, like Oldnotdead said.. you could have him be rangy (which I think he is anyway since Morris has him on underneath patterns)... but he's no Cam Chancellor. He doesn't deliver the big hits and intimidation you need for that type of FS oldnotdead is asking for.
he's no Kam Chancellor, for sure, but Rams, as you know, don't have a SS and FS system. They play left- and right. So both safeties have to do both jobs. It's been that way since 2020 in the base shell.
In nickel, when everyone is healthy Rapp played LBer in nickel. Now, he doesn't because we have Wagner and Jones, 2 LBers playing those two spots. Before it's been Rapp and a LBer, in 2020 it was Johnson and a LBer. In 2020-21 the Lber varied--Kiser, Reeder, Young, Howard.
So that is another thing to point out about oldnotdead, he seems to think Rams have a SS and a FS---
Rams, when they rotate to Cover-3 from the shell, often, Rapp is the one going underneath---the safety doing deep and the one going under can come from wither side and not sure what always dicates the call, could be with side is the 3-receiver side, --- would have to aks someone for me to know for sure--or study it more, but that takes too much time.
As to your point--sure, Rapp's been a disappointment, lacks a lot of things... the only other alternative while Fuller is out is Burgess and he's never shown anything...
But I think it's pretty clear from boundary corner, to a one-gap NT, to the other things I pointed out, that oldnotdead doesn't really understand what he's talking about....
