But I also see where teams are giving up long drives by "conceding" a free 6-8 yards by playing off coverage too. Good QB's will take those "free" 6-8 yard plays all day if you let them just as Az did last week against us...Az and Crylar Murray just weren't good enough to capitalize on it.

What I am seeing is that you can get burned either way. My biggest concern is not "adjusting" or "tightening up" when the time calls for it ie; short yardage where less than 5 yards is needed. It makes no sense to just "give" them the 5 yards unless you are trying to let them take time off the clock. But, if that is the case, then aren't you really playing "prevent" defense?

IMO, in comes down to the opponent and a good mixture of coverage's to keep them guessing on offense.
