Thanks for the great tip re: CC! From now on the interviews will make more sense to me.
So often it seems that the reporter is making a spech and asking the coach to agree. sometimes we get (especially from Jourdan) penetrating questions that are at the same time open-ended, and give the coach or player the opportunity to respond with something more than the ready-made. Overall in this interview the questions were quite good, and the coach was relaxed, engaging, and candid, exuding both a quiet confidence and humility. (As a reporter I'd define the coach's manner and tone in my lead sentence.)
Listening to this interview, as a reporter I'd have these takeaways:
Skow is showing much improvement in tracking the ball. (Subtext: Being where he needs to be to catch the damned thing could be a major part of his "hands" problem.)
Tutu now knows the offense and his role in it - he's ready to add something more than straight-line speed and hands, which we've seen in camp clips.
Hopkins not only looks like an NFL tight end, but his knowledge of the system sets him apart in terms of his ability to contribute. He's ready. (My observation as a reporter: His development could free McVay up to use two tight end sets against Buffalo, providing an edge in matchups, especially with VJ now out. His grasp of the offense also explains why he's still here and foretells what we might expect of him deeper into the season.)
Re: Coen (again, my observation as a reporter) In returning to the Rams with time off to coach at the college level is now returning to a familiar system but with a valuable background of experince that he didn't have when he left. He listens to his players (especially Stafford) in a way that develops synergy for how the offense works. In other words, he fully intends to utilize Stafford's other-worldly ability to make post-snap adjustments in sync with his receivers, Coop especially. This gives give him and the Rams a unique edge against a team like Buffalo.
The whole interview was salt-and-peppered with wonderful quotes that would gtive a reader understanding and insight.( I'd quote directly and expand on them if I were a reporter.)
There. That's my report on Liam's interview.
