I liked his approach to football. Didn't he assign some LBer type to go take out the kicker on kickoffs! Perhaps that puts me in a bad light but I really get a laugh out of that!
The best story I remember about him was that the Eagles had a game coming up against Miami and in a press conference Ryan said that the Dolphins were a bad team that couldn't play well and that the Eagles should beat them easily. Some journalist challenged him on that and said, "Coach, by you saying that about Miami, you've motivated the Dophins to play their guts out and beat you." Ryan responded, "Good, that's what I want. I want them to bring their best game so that way we can see how good we really are."
I get his point but I don't think it's in the best interests of any team to motivate their opponents against you.
Those were different times and I don't see you in a bad light at all. I think most people won't admit it but they prefer the honest answers over "coach speak".
What's the point of even listening to a coach who doesn't really give any true insight. Sometimes you can almost predict the answers before they even speak! lol
Buddy was so entertaining to listen to and was a fantastic Defensive coach. Like Jeff Fisher, the Offense never really mattered to him and was his downfall.
Gimme the Buddy Ryan, Mike Ditka and Bill Parcells types everyday and twice on Sunday!
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
