I was fortunate to be able to attend practice yesterday. Here's a few things I saw.
The Rams ran a brief 1s v 1s first up, although at only a jog pace and Stafford never threw the ball. I've never seen them do it this way before, and they did it and then stretched.
The Rams 4 QBs ran a passing drill just with the wide receivers next. Stafford only threw to Kupp and Robinson, and all four QBs threw two at a time. What struck me about this particular drill is that I've never seen this drill run better. Each QB hit the receiver right in stride, each receiver caught the ball with their hands, and the drill looked like a computer simulation. I was particularly impressed with Perez, whose throws had the most zip on them, and Brandon Powell who made the sharpest cuts. Overall, a very crisp drill and very impressive.
The Wide receivers get in line according to their place on the depth chart. The order all day was Kupp, Robinson, Jefferson, ATWELL, Skoronek, Harris, . . .. Atwell had a good practice, caught everything thrown his way, and made a few nice plays on wide receiver screens.
Brian Allen has a mammoth brace on his knee. That contraption looks super uncomfortable. At one point it came loose somehow and a trainer and him spent 3 or 4 minutes just trying to get it back on his knee. I hope that guy makes it through the season.
The Rams defense went Nuts when Kendrick dove and batted down a ball in the corner of the end zone from Stafford to Robinson. Got the biggest reaction almost all day. Troy Hill also picked off a deep pass from Stafford and weaved his way down the field to the delight of the Defense. I think Hill is going to play a lot in this defense and they are thrilled to have him back.
They ran Rams first O and against second D and vice versa for a good portion of the practice. Every time Stafford was in the pocket and he didn't get his immediate read, he threw it to Kupp and they connected every time. They have an uncanny ability to make a play when there doesn't appear that there is a play to be made.
I was very impressed with the practice. I have been to four or five practices every year since they returned to LA, and this was one of the smoothest, most efficient run practices I have seen. They are ahead of where they have been in the past, and this is a well oiled machine right now. Not a lot of guys rehabbing on the sidelines, most of the guys are out there and having fun. Even Ramsey was mixing in when he could. I really like where this team is right now.
I really paid close attention to Terell Lewis, and he looks very smooth. He is also a giant among giants. His wing span is crazy! I hope he can stay healthy and really show what he can do this year.
Really nice day yesterday in the high 70s, nice breeze, and crowd was in a great mood. Definitely a fun day to catch practice.
