The competition will drive better production for the job and both he and Jefferson will benefit. I don't think Skow threatens Jefferson enough but Tutu has the kind of talent that can make him afraid for his job which is the best motivation if he's a competitor. The thought of him running crossers and posts with Stafford back there should terrify defenses.
Kupp > Robinson > Jefferson/Atwell > Skow > Powell. That's what I am hoping it boils down to. If Atwell can win the WR3 role even better. Harris will need to make the roster as a TE or otherwise beat out the final TE as a WR/TE hybrid so same same.
I wish I could share your optimism for Atwell, Merlin. I really do.
But I’ll believe that he vies for 3rd WR over Jefferson when I see it. Based on what I’ve read so far he looks like a 4th WR on this team, at best, and that in some kind of a gadget role. If OBJ is signed then Atwell drops to 5th immediately.
Sad to say but Atwell looks like a VERY poor Ram pick at #57. WTH was McVay thinking?
What optimism would that be 43. I am simply observing that Tutu pushing for that role would be ideal. I have no idea whether he can do that. I have made some prediction with other players but Tutu is one of the guys I honestly don't know about. Have not seen enough, not sure if he can overcome the size issue, but he has the talent to do that.
Also and btw reading the replies one thing fans overlook is who McVay is. This isn't Fisher. He's not content to have a solid WR3. He wants more threat at every level, more risk for defenses, more weapons running free and overloading opponents with speed and skill. He drafted Tutu for a reason. This is year two. It's time for Tutu to push for a job and if he can't do that then trade him and keep loading this unit.
