The Rams Wire just released a story about Howard rejoining the Rams. [theramswire.usatoday.com] It contains this jewel:

He was released last week, just before the Rams gave Cooper Kupp his $80 million extension. They made that move because it freed up $2.54 million, which gave them some additional cap space for Kupp.

Yet just 4 days earlier The Rams Wire published a story explaining that Kupp's extension actually lowered Kupp's 2022 cap hit by $800,000. [theramswire.usatoday.com]

They’ll be pleased to know that the Rams continued their trend of lowering a player’s cap hit after extending him, dropping Kupp’s number from $18.6 million to $17.8 million ...

How can they claim that the Rams cut Howard because they needed the cap space for Kupp when they just got done telling us that Kupp's extension lowered his cap hit?!?

In reality, the Rams cut Howard simply because they didn't want to pay him $2.54M. When the details are announced expect his salary to be significantly less than that.

I totally agree that the Rams didn’t want to pay Howard $2.54M and that they were pretty sure he wouldn’t be claimed at that number.

But I also think that they might be shifting money around anticipating a future OBJ signing and maybe one more significant move? Dare I say it? An Edge? Rhymes with ‘twin’? Lol.

This Howard move might be part of a twofer?
