(LOL!) So, Travin Howard got cut because the Rams gave Aaron Donald a new contract?
But the fact that they also extended Stafford and Kupp to mega-deals didn't have anything to do with it?
Sooooo...what? You think the Rams divide their salary cap between offense, defense, and ST's?
And, if so...who do you intend to blame if the organization fails to sign OBJ - Stafford or Kupp.
What a strange rambling reply. I'm not blaming anyone. It's just reality. You keep the stars until you can't anymore and you cut anywhere you can.
Its why the Rams have traded Brockers and Ogletree and others. It's why Whitworth retired when he probably could have played another year. Noteboom vs Whitworth? I'd rather have Whitworth next year, but they don't have the room and they need cheaper players to pay for Stafford, Kupp, Donald and others.
As a comment to your question about the Ram's dividing their salary cap between offense, defense and ST's, I have read that they allocate general budgets based on position.
You've misinterpreted my response to you.
The title of your post was:
"Have to start trimming to pay for Donald"
And in the body of your post you said something to the effect of
a million here...a million there but made no mention of the extensions signed by Stafford or Kupp. In essence, it appeared (at least to me) as though you were laying the blame on Howard getting cut directly as a result of Aaron Donald's contract extension only.
When thinking to myself why you'd only consider Donald's contract as being the culprit (as opposed to Stafford's or Kupp's), I facetiously posited that you must think the team divies up the salary cap in some way to make it true.
Forget it.
