This deal reduces AD's cap hit in 2022 from $26.75M to $24M, creating an additional $2.75M in cap space this year. (The way Kupp's current deal is structured the Rams have an opportunity to get a lot more cap relief from him - over $10M if they chose to maximize the opportunity).
AD's deal creates $23M in dead money in 2025, but the cap is likely to be $300M by then so that will 'only' represent a little under 8% of the cap. (The equivalent of about $16M in dead money in 2022 cap dollars. The Rams are carrying just over $13.5M in dead money this year so it's in that ballpark.)
The Rams can also get cap relief in 2023 and/or 2024 by converting most of AD's salary to a signing bonus and spreading the cap hit over 5 years. It remains to be seen if the Rams want to carry even more dead money in 2025 ... but it is an option.
