You see that extra padding on the helmets of the OL and DL, too. Probably anyone who could potentially be near the QB during a play. The padding is to help prevent injury in case a QB hits a helmet when throwing a pass.

Yep, started doing that last year after Stafford banged his thumb on a helmet at the practice I was at during training camp.

That was a pretty scary moment to say the least
