It seems he overlooked the valuable contributions of Eric Weddle last year. Wouldn't TM would be more a replacement for him as a secondary leader with his experience and skill?
I haven’t followed Mathieu’s career at all closely, but from what I’ve read lately he sounds like a distant 2nd to Weddle when both were in their primes.
Weddle’s leadership and football smarts and instincts were simply off the charts. What Weddle brought to that D in the playoff run was just amazing and that was after a 2 year retirement from off the street with zero familiarity with the players, coaches, and scheme. Even played through a torn pec, man.
Helluva SB storyline. One of my personal favorites.
Everybody talks about the SB contributions of Miller and OBJ, and deservedly so. But I’ll put up that Weddle addition right along with them. I’m not sure we survive the playoffs without Weddle, too.
It was truly a storybook Ram SB run, huh? One to savor as long as I live.
