If I'm the Rams, I would certainly keep the door open for the Badger. But I wouldn't break the bank. I think a really good outside CB like Gilmore might be the place to spend some money. But not too much.
I like our safety corps as it is with Fuller and Scott, with Rapp in rotation.
We need to remember that our situation when we acquired Weddle was we had lost our "green dot" leader Fuller, and even our second "green dot" Jones was also out. In fact, both starting safeties were out and we were hurting.
But with Fuller and Rapp back, and Scott having emerged, the Honey Badger might not be high on the list. Even so, the Rams could judge that he is a position variable secondary player who borders on being a star (in my opinion) and can make the D better.
You make lots of good points in your 2 posts, Rock. As usual.
Yeah, our starting 11 on D might well already be on the roster. But what about depth for injuries or in case one of our youngsters struggles? I would like to see a couple of vets brought in for these 2 positions ‘just in case’. THEN try to find Snead gems in our draft for depth and ‘next year’.
About the secondary in general and Rapp in particular. Weddle really opened my eyes in the playoffs last year. A crafty vet retired for 2 years came in literally off the street and solidified our secondary and the D in general. What does that say about our current starters? Sometimes experience is just priceless.
Honestly, I think Rapp is a player without a position in this current D now that Wagner’s onboard. I can’t wait for them to trade Rapp for a player that’s a good fit at some Ram position, hopefully this offseason. Nothing personal with Rapp because he can play, but he’s NOT a good Ram fit. Hope that makes sense.
If Rams can bring in a couple of savvy vets OR hit on 2 gems in this deep draft I think we can field a helluva D that is certainly SB worthy. That SB window is still open and I hope Rams do everything possible to maximize moves to take full advantage. This ain’t the time for Rams to hold back on personnel moves…
