Would you pay him $5M of your cap space? More? I think the Rams have a number in mind, probably something commensurate with who the player is now. And maybe he's got more in him than last year's film shows. Maybe he was going through the motions a bit.
Either way they drafted a guy who can stay on the field three downs in Jones. He needs to play to get better. So it feels wrong to bring in a vet like this when he's not the same guy he was, in the same window when you finally find an ILB you like with some upside.
My answer is I wouldn't pay a two down lineman anything. I'd use JAGs for that role and I'd spend that $5M or what have you on a corner or safety to beef up this secondary.
