I think any way you slice it- Super Bowl or not- drafting Atwell there was an awful mistake. He is a guy that probably should have been a mid-4th round pick and showed a grand total of zero promise. Could he emerge as a contributor in year 2? Sure, maybe. Is it likely. I'd say no. Allen played well in 2021 for sure but that (to me) does not change at all the value that drafting a Creed Humphrey would provide. You draft players for what they can develop into and give you over 4 or 5 years (and sometimes more if you get lucky).
That all said, the Rams can and do continue to get great scouting work and great OL coaching. They do. But... they also again didn't really need to see what it was like to truly need quality OL depth. Corbett and Edwards started all 17 games, Allen 16 and Havenstein and Whitworth 15 each. They needed a grand total of 5 starts and some spot duty off the bench from Noteboom, Shelton, Evans and Jackson. It is not unusual for teams to need 15 or 20 starts from backup OL.
Regardless of who they re-sign or not or who they add in free agency I would hope to see two OL drafted in April. They might not need them in 2022. But looking beyond that they would.
