You neglect to mention that Bienemy has considerable baggage going back to his college days. If I were an owner that would have to be considered in any tiebreaker decisions.
But I do take your point otherwise.
I was one year ahead of Bienemy at Colorado. While I never had a class with him, I had friends who did. They didn't describe his intelligence in flattering terms. Now, no doubt some of that was sour grapes and the standard put down of football players as dumb grunts. My take away from his situation is that he probably has all sorts of football smarts but maybe doesn't interview well as a guy who has a whole team leadership perspective. He's had dozens of interviews and still no HC job. His name really has cooled off this year. Sometimes being a great coordinator doesn't translate into being a great head coach.
