Namely, guys willing to let him run the O, including playcalling.
It’s a wonderful stepping stone position for future advancement but does require a person to be willing to stay in background and tend to the more routine O matters.
At least O’Connell was able to skip the step of going to another team to ‘prove himself’ as LaFleur did.
Vikings don’t know how good of a play caller O’Connell really is. Think about that.
Heck, maybe O’Connell will hire a legit OC so that O’Connell could be a traditional executive type HC? Who knows?
While I do not agree with some of what Brian Flores says in his lawsuit. Stuff like O'Connell getting a job after being an OC for 2 seasons and never calling plays is kind of stupid when you consider KC's OC Bienemy who also does not call plays. One of them has a SB win and 4 consecutive championship games on his resume ...the other just 1 SB appearance (so far). This is what Flores is talking about when it comes to double standards. The KC OC was always left in the wind precisely because he didn't call the plays and we didn't know how good he really was....but we can't apply that to O'Connell?
