He is a great leader first off. Players listen when he speaks. That's really important in this era of everyone looking for a McVay. Some of these coordinators are really good but where they are going to come up short is being ready to be the pulse of the whole thing. I was watching a discussion on the 9ers OC who looks like some dude who would show up to install an antivirus on your computer, and thinking to myself there is zero chance a room full of competitive men are gonna follow his lead. It matters.
He's also shown this year that he can master the quarters look which is really important. That is the defense of choice to check all these QBs in this league now. Cover 4 is the new Cover 3. But not everyone can run it, there are a lot of teams out there doing it wrong. Morris mastered that well enough to have us in the Super Bowl. For any owner who would want to see coordinator level excellence to hire a guy as HC (of which I would be in that group as I believe it is important) that block has been checked this year.
And lastly he's got enough exposure to the head job that stuff isn't gonna surprise him. Being here with McVay should help him too, as McVay is one of the best in his management of the culture. Some of these guys Morris is competing with are gonna have to learn on the job with some stuff that Morris will be ready for.
I just have a lot of respect for how he's come in and handled himself and learned this defense and delivered the biggest game. And it makes me angry to see that more teams aren't knocking the door down to interview him.
