What is more concerning is we have Allen, Corbett, Whit, Noteboom all as UFA on the OL with OBJ, Miller, and Michel going on the open market as well. All that with being $5,259,314 over the cap for 2022.
Allen is FA, but maybe the Rams think Shelton is ready to step up to starting center?
Corbett is also a FA, but maybe the Rams think they have depth there to take over (Shelton, Evans, Anchrum, Jackson)?
My guess: the Rams sign one of these two and let the other one walk.
Whit is actually under contract next year (for $15.5M, though). My guess: either he or Noteboom will stay but not both. If Whit retires (or the Rams cut him) they save about $14M against the cap, and if they sign Boom to the 4 year, $50M contract that RockRam suggests (or the 4yr, $48M contract I floated here [
ramsrule.com] ) he could, depending on how the Rams structure it, only count $3M against the cap in 2022. So letting Whit go and keeping Boom actually could add $11M to the cap.
In addition to that Boom/Whit swap the Rams can restructure Donald to gain $10M in cap space, restructure Ramsey for $11.2M, and extend Stafford in such a way that it clears $11M in cap space in 2022. Then they can cut ARob and call it a post June 1 cut to get another $7M in cap space.
Now the Rams are $45M under the cap and already have their LT situation resolved.
