I'm not sure the medical community actually knows the answer to your last question.
There's been so many conflicting studies and info.
Remember that a couple of weeks ago South Africa and the WHO said that while Omicron was contagious it didn't appear to have any severe symptoms at all. Now others are warning that it might. Some that it does. the UK claims a person died from that mutation.

What to believe?
