I've had many of the same observations. But I don't see it as a need to evolve, IMO McVay needs to grow up... in a head coaching sense. The great head coaches, no matter the level, understand that there are many ways to win games (field position game, shoot out game, high risk, low risk, and every variation in between). McVay only wants to win one way and doesn't adjust to the game flow or opponent weaknesses. This is partly stubbornness, but IMO is really due to hubris often seen in young, smart professionals who lack experience. To make matters worse, right now McVay's team is not complimentary. Secondary and LB strategies are not complimentary to DL, defensive attitude and approach is not complimentary to offense, offensive play calling and clock management are not complimentary to defense, special teams just isn't complimentary to anything. This is on the head coach and the lack of maturity required to make all elements of a great football team work together before and during a game. I'm a huge McVay fan, I think he may eventually mature into one of the best head coaches in NFL history, hopefully leading the Rams. I want him to succeed, but right now his immaturity is driving Rams funs nuts.
