I don't really care for Cowherd but his criteria for his tiers is basically fair. I'd have to put Stafford outside the first tier for now since he hasn't won any post season games. Can't be one of the truly elite if you haven't won any postseason games.

So then I guess that makes Goff "elite" since he has won many post season games and maybe even "SUPER" elite since he also played in a SUPER-Bowl, correct?

No, not correct. Not any more than Stan Humphries was elite. I didn't say just because you won a playoff game it automatically makes you elite.

Every once in a while, a guy may be so statistically superior to his peers that you'd want to put him in that elite class even before he won anything in the post season but those are outliers. Stafford has loads of talent and a new chance with his change of scenery. But until he proves otherwise, he hasn't upped his game in the postseason or advanced in the postseason and I can't put him up there with guys who actually have done that.

Stafford's gotta earn it. I agree that he was in a mostly bad situation in Detroit. 75% of the time, he was on pretty lousy teams. But an elite guy would have taken better advantage of those three 10 win teams that he actually was a part of. Elite guys either find a way to win or at least up their game when the chips are down. Stafford, in just 3 chances so far, hasn't done that. I'm not saying he never will but "elite" is a privileged category.

In '18, one could make the argument that Goff deserved to be considered. I don't think he quite got there but at least he put up good numbers and won a couple of playoff games. Unfortunately, his apparent absence during the Dallas win and the NE loss put a damper on any elite talk.
