You don’t see ANY upside to Atwell other than his speed, ellard?
Some pretty smart football people took him at 57 and other teams were reportedly ready to pounce right after them. Sooooo…
But that doesn't mean it's a good pick and especially if you have other needs that are more important than a 5th wr who will basically "sit out" his first year because he has all those great wr's ahead of him. Even the smartest football people make mistakes or have a bad plan.
Combine that with his small size and other deficiencies pointed out by nicecatch and others maybe one of those "other teams" SHOULD have taken him, but for our team, there were better options there IMO.
As a Rams fan, I want this kid to shine, be ROY and be a long time future star for our team but...I just don't see that happening. If it does, I will be the first one to say I was wrong!
Atwell ain’t gonna be OROY, that’s for sure. But nobody ever thought that he would.
I’ll say it again. Atwell was drafted to replace DJ in ‘22. Period. As such, he is right on schedule.
If DJ gets hurt then Atwell will see some snaps this year ready or not. But otherwise, Atwell is another of those many ‘next year’ draft picks that the Rams are prone to make.
Look, we fans are prone to make judgements about players and/or position groups and then consider them to be obvious, even axiomatic.
But sometimes we are flat out wrong. Recent examples include ‘needs’ on OL, OLB, and ILB. Turns out that Ram coaches knew a helluva lot better exactly what their needs were and where best to invest picks and FA dollars.
They’re certainly not perfect, but overall they do a very good job on these matters.
Therefore, I’m happy to give them the benefit of the doubt on this Atwell pick until we finally see how it works out. Rams have a handful of other picks that were for ‘next year’ besides Atwell. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that several of them work out well for us, too.
