Dropping the CLASSIC 1973-99 look!!!
The Rams seem to excel at poor timing. When they moved to St. Louis, I would have totally understood them altering the uniform. But to ditch them right after winning the SB? Instead of focusing on the year 2000, they should have given the Ferragamo's another year and let people basque in their greatness. Then, if all else stayed the same and they didn't make the playoffs, they could have switched to the new uniforms for the 2001 season and the next(and sadly final) chapter of the GSOT.
That was a Georgia Frontiere move based on some of her New Age/eccentric ideas. No change was made to the unis after the relocation to St Louis until 2000. I think it was done then because it was a new Millenium, Below is an explanation from Todd Hewitt taken from Helmet Hut's "Talking Helmets with the Equipment Manager":
When we changed our color scheme in 2000, we actually considered many different possibilities, 15-20 combinations or so. Mrs. Frontiere's favorite color was powder blue, think (Georgia Frontiere, Rams owner 1979-2008) UCLA, a color she used to wear all of the time. She thought the Rams would look great in this color and wanted to see some examples. So we made up some powder blue helmets with gold horns and gold helmets with powder blue horns, which she loved. But being someone that was very much into astrology, Mrs. Frontiere agreed to the current color scheme because, actually, she liked the names of the colors we used: new century gold and millennium blue. She thought it made cosmic sense if you will, given the year was 2000.The color change seemed to be more about Georgia Frontiere's eccentric New Age-y ideas than anything else.
