Raymond Calais out 4-6 months with broken foot
LA gets thinner at the running back position after another injury

The Los Angeles Rams did not make it out of their second preseason game completely healthy as running back and return man Raymond Calais suffered a mid-foot fracture that may take anywhere from four to six months weeks to recover. Though LA still has Darrell Henderson, Jake Funk, and Xavier Jones to fill the void, the injury makes the Rams even thinner at the position at the position, one month after Cam Akers was lost for the season with a torn Achilles.
Calais’ injury was suffered in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders on a running back screen that Calais took for about five yards but was negated by offensive pass interference by Brycen Hopkins. The running back was tackled by two Raiders defenders where it appeared his foot had gotten underneath the tacklers, causing Calais to get up limping and require assistance to get off the field.
With another injury to the Rams backfield, will Sean McVay go looking for some depth at the position and add a veteran, or stick with the three running backs still healthy at the start of the season? There are still viable options at the running back position on the market that could put a veteran on the Rams’ roster for some extra assurance.
More importantly than depth at the running back position, what will McVay decide to do with his punt and kick return positions? Otis Anderson, the player who was slated behind Calais on the depth chart, has considerable special teams experience from his time at UCF, where he was talked about as the team’s “best all-purpose threat.”
Anderson’s odds of making the roster seem slim, but they may have gotten a little bit better on Saturday. It’s just unfortunate to know why they are better.
