why wouldn't Wolford be just a suitable as the backup to Matthew? If he was good enough to back up Goff those measurables haven't decreased because he's behind Matthew IMO. If you are looking at the backup position IMO you need to look directly at those guys vying for that spot, not so much the guy they may need to replace.
With Perkins I see a guy who has the legs to evade some rush plans, with Wolford I see a guy who can escape if needed, not as flashy doing it. With Wolford I see a guy who has been in the system longer, I see a guy who has already proven his leadership skills with the 1st string, I see a guy who played in place of a starter and helped us get a must win game. With Perkins I see a guy who is doing well but in the realm of 3rd stringers, he's not going against any big time boys and big time games.
We have enough question issues with out backup RB room, I don't want to double down and have an unknown at the most important spot as well. He need more time to be in that backup thinking IMO...
